I’m still reminiscing the incredible time we had with Yagami Ren in Helsinki! Our Shibari Ropeplay team had the honor of hosting this remarkable rigger, whose blend of skill, humor, and insight made his visit truly special. From workshop to private lessons to interesting discussions and a fantastic performance, every moment was a treasure.
Yagami Ren spent several days with us, and I was lucky enough to receive private teaching at my studio. Those sessions were a masterclass in both technique and philosophy. Ren’s approach to shibari is deeply thoughtful, and he shared fascinating perspectives on how Japanese martial arts and shibari intertwine—both rooted in discipline, flow, and connection. Our conversations ranged from the technical to the more immaterial aspects of the art, and I found myself hanging on his every word. He even gifted me a stunning piece of calligraphy, a gesture that left me deeply touched and honored. It now holds a special place in my studio, a reminder of his visit.

The workshop was a hit, with participants soaking up Ren’s dynamic teaching style. He brought a playful energy that made everyone feel at ease, yet his expertise commanded respect. We explored new ties and body handling concepts, and his ability to balance humor with seriousness kept the room engaged and laughing. It was the kind of workshop where you could feel everyone having good time.
At the rope party, Ren’s performance was a perfect reflection of his personality—serious yet infused with lighthearted and even funny moments that had the audience chuckling. His connection with his model was captivating, and the way he wove humor into the intensity of shibari was nothing short of brilliant. The crowd loved it, and the energy in the room was infectious.
Hosting Yagami Ren was an absolute privilege. His warmth, wisdom, and skill enriched our community, and I’m so grateful for the time we spent together. Here’s to more laughter, learning, and ropes in the future!
