Web of Artistry: Hajime Kinoko in Helsinki

What an incredible weekend we had with the renowned Hajime Kinoko in Helsinki! Our Shibari Ropeplay team together with LeatherSamFinland had the immense pleasure of hosting this master of shibari, whose unique artistic take on shibari and particularly his web-shibari style struck us all with amazement. His visit was a whirlwind of learning and pure artistry that I’ll cherish for years to come.

The workshop was nothing short of mesmerizing. Hajime Kinoko among his other core techniques introduced us to his signature web-shibari style, where ropes weave intricate, spider-like patterns that are as visually stunning as they are technically complex. Watching him tie was like witnessing a painter at work—each knot and loop deliberately placed to create a living masterpiece. His teaching style was approachable yet profound, encouraging us to explore both the technical precision and the aesthetical depth of shibari. I felt that our participants were excited, and I could feel the room light up as everyone experimented with these new patterns under his guidance. The energy was elevated, and the sense of community was palpable as we all shared in the joy of discovery.

The highlight, of course, was Hajime Kinoko’s performance at our rope party. Elegant doesn’t even begin to describe it. The way he moved with his model, the ropes flowing like an extension of his hands, was pure poetry. The audience was captivated, and the atmosphere was filled with a quiet reverence for the beauty unfolding before us. After the party and the workshop, we all gathered for drinks and conversation (and of course karaoke!) at our local bar, and I can honestly say it was one of those nights where everyone left with a smile and a story to tell.

Hosting Hajime Kinoko was a dream come true for Shibari Ropeplay. His artistry, warmth, humour, and generosity made this experience unforgettable. We’re already looking forward to the next time we can learn from and celebrate with this incredible artist. Thank you, Kinoko-san, for bringing your magic to Helsinki! And we have many more saunas for you to visit on your next trip! 😊
